Heinrich Kirchner – From image to symbol
26. October 2025 to 8. March 2026
Introduction: Dr. Birk Ohnesorge, Bremen
The sculptor and Munich Academy professor Heinrich Kirchner, who was born in Erlangen in 1902 and died in Chiemgau in 1984, was Lothar Fischer's teacher. Fischer in turn was Heinrich Kirchner's assistant in the bronze workshop at the Academy of Fine Arts and learnt the lost wax casting technique from him. This technique had a significant influence on Heinrich Kirchner's work throughout his life. The exhibition of around 40 works, sculptures and drawings proves that Heinrich Kirchner did not attempt to depict the image of man in his works, but rather a symbol. As an artist, he was always convinced of the existence of an invisible world.
